Show Us Your Media Challenge 2! Make art with us!

Wow, what an great first month of the #showusyourMEdia challenge. You all produced stellar, moving, personal art. Art that matters. Thank you so much for creating and especially for sharing. If you're new to the challenge, check the bottom of this post for a recap on rules, etc.

Here is our next challenge. It runs from July 20 to August 16, 2017.

Create a piece of art about the things you say to yourself. Are you positive? Negative? Both?

This challenge inspired me. As I have gotten older, I have found that I am kinder to myself. I still have my insecurities, my sadness. But my self-talk tends to be motivational. If I don't give myself a pep talk, who will? I made several pages because once I got started, I couldn't stop.

Here's a little journaling tip. I always have a big drawer full of "art bits." These are warm ups, pieces of art I don't like or that just didn't work, etc. When I sit down to journal and feel stumped for an idea, I dig through my "art bits" drawer and pull out pieces that appeal to me. I cut or tear them up and repurpose them for new pages. I used this process for all of the pages that I made for this challenge. The birds on the Media Board came from a box that I created in a class that I taught. I tore the box apart and used the panels as the focal point for the pages. The tag can from the "art bits" box, too. The woman that I cut in half was a pretty ugly drawing that I did five years ago. It's out of proportion...I draw better now....but it looked kind of cool cut in half. The orange circles were from a painting that was downright ugly. When I cut the circles out, they were perfect for the page.

The backgrounds on the bird pages are almost entirely Scribble Stick, with the exception of the Cheddar color on the page with the Blackberry and Cheddar background, and the Turquoise paint I put through the Almost Ikat stencil on the face page.

Challenge Rules Recap
I want to put the “me” back in mixed media. All art is personal, whether it be a card or an art journal page or a painting. Join me as we begin a series of monthly challenges and prompts that will fuel your creative spirit and help you delve into the ME of MEdia.

• We will announce monthly challenges on the Ranger blog on the third Thursday of each month.
• Use at least one Dina Wakley Media product in your project. If your product is not obvious (like paint), please list the colors you used.
• You can make anything you like—a card, an art journal page, a tag, a canvas, anything!
• Interpret each challenge any way you like. You can be literal or you can use it as a springboard and see where it takes you. Let the challenge inspire you and stretch you.
• Try to journal on your piece. Write your thoughts about each prompt. You can write a little or you can write a lot, but do your best to incorporate your thoughts and feelings into the piece.
• When you complete a challenge, please share it on your blog and social media (Instagram/Facebook) with the tags #showusyourMEdia and #rangerink.
• We will do two random drawings each month for a prize. We will search the hashtag #showusyourMEdia on Instagram for one winner, and then on Facebook for the second winner. To be clear, you must use the hashtag #showusyourMEdia on either Instagram or Facebook in order to show up in the search and to be eligible to win. You have until the third Wednesday of each month to complete the previous month’s challenge.
• We will announce the previous month’s winner AND the new challenge on the third Thursday of each month.

Awesome...nothing is ever a waste I have found since watching everyone do their thing.... I recently had to use toilet paper to mop up inks at a friends place ...I kept it & have used it on my second only multi media piece....waiting to get to a shop that sells your paints etc as our local ( 20+ klms away) sadly had to close...looks like I'll have to learn to shop online 😨
